Friends of the Artesia Library

Mission

The Friends of the Artesia Library in California serves to unite a community of volunteers and library enthusiasts who are dedicated to enriching our local library’s services and facilities. We are committed to raising awareness of the library’s needs, to advocating for its development, and to promoting the donation of books, valuable collections, money, and endowments. Our goal is to enhance the library’s offerings for all patrons, thereby fostering a stronger and more connected community.

Ross fundraiser

Community partnership is what the Friends of the Artesia Library is all about and we were the recipients of community generosity when the students at Ross Middle School held a book drive and fund raiser for the library. The 8th and 9th grade students with the help of Cortney Ramos, the ELA and AVID Educator at Ross, asked their fellow students to bring a “book and a buck” to give to the Friends. They were able to collect 675 books and raise $115! The Friends added the books collected to their summer book sale and the money raised from that sale was reinvested into the library. Thank you, Ross Middle School, for your generosity.

What We do

The Friends of the Artesia Library’s purpose is to raise funds for the Artesia Library which is part of the LA County Library system. Every year the Friend volunteers donate money to the library in order to purchase books, periodicals, and supplies for which the county budget does not provide. A big portion of our donation goes to providing programs throughout the year for children, teens, and adults.

We sponsor such things as science shows, author talks, magic shows, movie nights, paint classes, and a host of other programs. In order to fund our donations, the Friends hold basket raffles, garden party dinner events, book sales, and direct solicitations to the community. Every year we try to raise approximately $15,000 to $20,000 which all goes back to the library. Please help us by donating or by becoming a Friend.
